Movie Review: Prem Ratan Dhan Payo

Hello friends!

It’s been a long time since I went for a movie. The last movie that I went to see was Bajrangi Bhaijan which was an awesome movie, and as it was a Salman Khan movie I decided to watch Prem Ratan Dhan Payo too. Though the reviews of the movie were not as great but as I already booked my tickets before seeing the reviews I went for the movie.

Before starting to tell about how did I find the movie, I want to say that I am not a critics and I have no idea about the critical points of direction nor I am a Salman Khan fan, instead I am a die heart SRK fan. But whatever I will write today will be only as an audience who went to get some entertainment.

prdp 1Plot:

Yuvraj Vijay Singh (Salman Khan) a prince of Pritampur, is soon to be crowned as king and is engaged to princess Maithili (Sonam Kapoor), but due to his stubborn nature Vijay faces many problems with Maithali as well as his brother and sisters. His step sisters Rajkumari Chandrika (Swara Bhaskar) and Rajkumari Radhika (Aashika Bhatia) lives in a separate house outside royal fort, while his step brother Yuvraj Ajay Singh (Neil Nitin Mukesh) wants to kill him and take the Crown with the help of his manager Chirag Singh (Armaan Kohli), who is misguiding Ajay at every step. They plan an attack on Yuvraj Vijay, which Vijay survives but gets badly injured. Meanwhile Vijay’s look alike Prem Dilwale (Salman Khan) a happy go lucky stage actor who falls in love with princess Maithili, reaches Pritampur to meet her along with his friend Kanhaiya (Deepak Dobriyal). Pitampur’s Diwan Sahab (Anupam Kher) notices Prem and gets him to take Yuvraj Vijay’s place while Yuvraj recover in a hideout.

Prem acts as Yuvraj Vijay but with his simple and caring nature, impresses Maithaili who earlier wanted to breakup with Vijay. Prem also reconciles with his sister’s and brings them back to fort. Story takes a twist as Yuvraj Ajay and Chirag kidnaps the real Vijay. Chirag decides to double cross Ajay, as he frees Vijay and provokes him against Ajay and Prem. Vijay and Ajay gets involved in a sword fight while Prem and Kanhaiya intervenes and clears the confusion. Chirag tries to shoot them down but falls to his death.

Ajay regrets his deeds, while Vijay reconciles with his family. Maithili is shocked to know the truth about Prem and realizes that she loves Prem not Vijay, while Prem returns back to his home. The royal family reaches Prem’s house to reunite Prem and Maithili.

My views about the movie:

The storyline of the movie is pretty simple and there is nothing wow about it, instead the worst part of the movie are its songs. I am not saying that the songs are not good, instead I am in love with two of the songs, but there are so many songs in the movie that it really becomes difficult to concentrate on the actual concept of the movie. You will have to tolerate a song after almost every 10-15 minutes or even less and this really annoyed me. There was a point in the movie where I found myself saying “ bas ab aur gane nahi”. And still there were 2 songs left.

Both the parts of the movie, the one before interval and the one after interval were equally non interesting, the one before the interval was still fine but I found the that the movie was a bit stretched up in the second half which gave the opportunity to the makers of the film to introduce more songs 😉

I loved the way both Salman khan and Sonam Kapoor are looking in the movie, the whole royal family background attracted me. Basically Prem Ratam Dhan Payo is a typical 90’s film which will definitely be liked by our parents and you will love the movie if you are a Salman Kahn fan, but if you are none of the above, then you might think that there were better ways to spend the 250 bucks that you spend for the movie.

    1. thanks mariyam…..I personally would suggest not to spend your money by watching this movie in the theater…..its not something that can’t be missed until you are a salman khan fan 🙂

    1. completely agree with you vishakha……If we go by the reviews none of us will go for the movie but Salman Khan lovers can’t ignore it 🙂

    1. you seem to be a Salman Khan fan….and if you are then you must not skip the movie and if you are not, then you seriously don’t have any reason to watch it 🙂

  1. Even I was screaming inside “Please no more songs” and I had a headache after watching this movie…I would suggest rather stay and watch “hum apke hain kaun” than wasting your 250 bucks on this movie…nice review 🙂
