MAC Isabel and Ruben Toledo Pearlglide Intense Eye Liner: Designer Purple Review and swatches

Few days back MAC launched one of their collections called Isabel and Ruben Toledo Collection. This collection was created by one of fashion’s most romantic couples-Isabel and Ruben Toledo. With Isabel Toledo’s creative fashion design and Ruben Toledo’s unique illustrations, the dynamic duo has created one of MAC’s most artistic—yet wearable—collections ever. I honestly wanted to try majority of the products from this collection but unfortunately when I went to get this, almost the whole collection was sold out. The SA told me that the collection was sold out within 2 days and she is left only with 4 products. She had 1 shade of eye liner, 1 shade of lip glass, 1 shade of nail paint and mascara. I didn’t want to spend my money on the nail pain and mascara and so I decided to get the eye liner and the lip glass. Luckily I loved both the shades. Though they were pricy as compared to the normal MAC stuff, but as they were limited edition, I wanted to try them.

My take on the product:

Packaging is the first thing that attracts me towards any new collection and the same happened with the packaging of this collection too. This collection has a black and white packaging with a face made on the top of many products. The liner I have does have just white packaging with design made with black. The actual liner too has the same pattern as that on the packaging. I personally loved the way the liner looks. Like other MAC liners, this too has a little.

Designer purple is a beautiful purple shade with loads of purple colored shimmers. I love shimmers on my lids and so am already in love with this liner. This is a color that suits every occasion; it can be used for everyday purpose and will look beautiful in parties too. The shimmer particles are chunky and are easily visible, but they do not irritate the eyes, not do they creat any problem in application. The color is highly pigmented; one swipe of the color is enough to get full color. This is my second eyeliner from MAC and I love its formula, the liner glides on smoothly on the lids without much efforts.

The best part of the liner is its staying power, the liner stays all day long without fading, yes it can smudge but only if it is touched or rubbed. If not touched, the liner can stay for long hours. I applied this liner in the morning at 9 am and it was intact till 5 pm. Around 5 pm I felt tired and I slept with the liner on, when I woke up, I expected the liner to smudge, but to my surprise, the liner was still intact. The problem comes when you have to remove the liner, the color goes off easily with an eye makeup remover, but the shimmer particles are really difficult to remove. When tried, they spread all over the place making it even more difficult to remove.

Overall, I am in love with this liner, and I know that I will be using this often; I just wished that this would have been in the retractable form as a lot of product can get wasted during sharpening.

Pros:

• Beautiful packaging
• Amazing color and pigmentation
• The sparkles are chunky but they do not hinder the application nor do they feel heavy on the lids
• Super pigmented color
• Long staying power
• Do not smudge until rubber very hard
• Pencil has a colored section at the base which helps to recognize the color.

Cons:

• Pricy
• Shimmer particles might be a con for some (I personally loved them)
• Non retractable (product gets wasted during sharpening)

Would I buy this product again?

No! Though I loved it, I know that it will take me quite some time to finish this off and after some years I might not like shimmers. Moreover as it was a limited edition liner, I won’t be able to buy it again.

Do I recommend this?

Yes I do, but unfortunately it is not available any more.
