Girl on Trend | Shine & Sparkle
A major trend on catwalks for this season has sparkles all over it. Though that’s not unusual, what we find the most interesting is that sequins are incorporated in clothes for daytime. This amazing fashion element has been around for centuries now, from the Egyptian pharaohs to Hollywood divas and Michael Jackson, they were the perfect way to make an outfit fabulous. This season it has brought to us by designers such as David Koma, Holly Fulton, and Sophia Webster etc. Stick around to find out what’s all the buzz about.
The history of sparkling
As we mentioned, for centuries sequins have been used in fashion. In the fashion world as we know it, sequins were made hit in the thirties in Hollywood, and Dorothy wore the glittery red shoes in “Wizard of Oz” in 1939, in the 1960’s French fashion designer André Courrèges presented his futuristic glittering designs. Twiggy rocked an all glitter outfit in the movie “The boy friend” in 1971, and the very next year American designer Norman Norell designed the perfect maximally elegant maxi sequined mermaid dress. Then came the disco era and glam rock age, where glitters and sparkles were all around. After that fashion excess, sequins were toned down, and worn by Hollywood divas on the red carpet, or for a night out.
The twist of 2015
This year is, in many ways, revolution of shine & sparkle, led by fashion giants such as Christian Dior, Donatella Versace and Ralph Lauren. These designers showed us that glitters and shine are not just for a night out, and not just for Hollywood divas. This glitter revival was just what we need for these seasons when there is almost nothing new and interesting on the catwalks, sometime reinvention is better than invention. Sequins are the perfect way to insert fantasy into everyday boring life. As for the razzle dazzle on the red carpet, we weren’t short on that too. Diane Kruger, Amanda Seyfried and Olivia Palermo, were sporting this look to make sure all eyes are on them.
Your time to shine
You’re probably wondering by now, what’s in it for you? You’re not a face from the cover, nor a Hollywood star. How can you wear sequined clothes? Glitters are giving whole new meaning to your outfit, so if you choose the piece on which you’ll wear them, you can add a little drama or some stylishness. From a casual sparkly outfit where one piece (such as skirt) is sequined to all fabulous party dresses, you can incorporate that shine to your every look. You can wear glitters on a simple walk in the park, if you pair up a pair of boyfriend jeans with monochrome shirt or blouse and a sequined blazer. Really, every fashion aficionado today should have at least one shiny and sequined clothing piece, whether it will be some jewelry, purse, shoes, dress or skirt, or all of the above it’s your choice.
Just remember, don’t wear too much glitters at once, unless you accidentally fall into a time-machine and end up in the 80s, this is still a fashion no-no.
