E.L.F. eyeshadow quad Pretty n’ Pink Review and Swatches

A good makeup can completely change the way you look. Out of all the makeup products that add a pop of colour to your face are the eye shadows and lipsticks. Both the products come in a huge variety of shades. But one cannot go crazy with a blue of green coloured lipstick as can be done with eye shadow. Though there are very few people who like to experiment with their eye shadow colour, most of them like to stick with their neutrals and pinks. Today, I am going to review one such eye shadow quad from the brand e.l.f. The eye shadow quad is known as Brightening eye colour and is available in a huge variety of colour options. The shade I have is called Pretty n’ Pink.

I wanted to try e.l.f products since a very long time but they are not so easily available in India. Some sites do sell e.l.f products but they are highly priced in India. The actual cost of this quad in USA is $1 but I have seen some sites in India selling these quads for Rs1100 that is insanely high as compared to the original price.

I ordered my quad from a site called shopmissA.com along with many products where it costs $1. (ShopmissA Haul).

Product quantity: 0.09oz./2.5g

Price: $1

Packaging: The actual pans of the shadows are triangular shaped which is different from all the other shadows available in the market. The pans are fixed into a plastic container with a transparent lid. The lid is not very sturdy but is easy and convenient to travel with. The plastic container is further packed into a blister pack, back of which contains all the information regarding the product and how to use it. The quad also comes with a little two way sponge applicator which is practically of not use due to its size, but can come handy in emergency situations.

Overall the packaging is not very impressive, but I like the fact that the colours are visible from the transparent lid, which makes it easier to select the desired quad. Moreover what better can you expect from a $1 quad.

Product Description:

Luxuriously smooth, pigmented formula provides your eyes with a bright and beautiful sweep of rich colour. The formula blends into skin for a long lasting, beautiful effect. Each quad is comprised of 4 coordinating shades that allow for both natural and dramatic looks. Built-in mirror and applicator included.

How to use

Apply a light shade to the eyelid as a base with an eyeshadow blending brush. Blend a darker shade into the base and crease using a fluffy crease brush.Repeat the previous step to add intensity and definition.

My take on the product:

As the name of the quad suggests, the quad is a combination of beautiful pink colours. Out of the 4 colours in the quad, two colours are pearly pinks, one a bit lighter than the other. The quad also contains a deep purple that is a great colour for the crease. The fourth colour in the quad is a pearly white highlight shade. All the four colours in the quad contain micro shimmer particles in them which when applied onto the eyes does not come as shimmers but give a pearlier look.

The quad is beautiful to look at, but it fails to be as impressive on the eyes. The shades are not very pigmented and they need to be build to get a decent amount of colour on the lids. Once 4-5 layers of the colours are applied, they do look beautiful, but for my liking it’s too much work. The shadows are very soft and smooth to apply. They are easy to blend too.

But the formulation of the product did not suit me. I have tried the quad 4-5 times and every time I use the colours on my lid, my lids start itching. I have tried it both with and without the primer, I have tried various kinds of brushes and have even applied it with my fingers, but every time I apply the colours from this quad I always end up rubbing my lids due to excessive itching. I am not sure about the staying power of the colours as I have never been able to wear these for more than 10 minutes. I am not sure which one, but I think that there is some ingredient in the quad that is not suiting my skin.

Pros:

  • Affordable
  • Beautiful colours
  • Easy to blend
  • Not so sturdy packaging, but is travel friendly due to its size

Cons:

  • Poor pigmentation
  • Makes my lids itchy just after 5 minutes of application
Would I buy this product again?

No! I would rather not apply anything on my lids.

Do I recommend this?

Though these quads are just $1, which is a phenomenal price for 4 colours, these are not worth buying. These are not pigmented enough and they do not suit me. Instead I would rather suggest spending the money on wet n wild shadows that are not only highly pigmented but affordable too.

Rating: 2/5 (Only because of the price range)
